The Lands Advisory Board (LAB) and the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre (Resource Centre) are seeking a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to provide advisory and technical support services to First Nation communities and the Resource Centre.

As part of the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management (Framework Agreement), the LAB and the Resource Centre provide political and technical support to developmental and operational First Nations. The developmental process under the Framework Agreement consists of a series of activities including the drafting of community land codes, implementing communication strategies and community voting procedures, as well as finalizing Individual Agreements with Canada. Once a First Nation ratifies its Land Code and becomes operational, the LAB and Resource Centre provide various support services such as assisting/advising with drafting land laws, rules, procedures, agreements, instruments, as well as implementing land governance systems and facilitating agreements and other arrangements with municipal, provincial, federal or First Nation governments.

Preferred Candidate Requirements

This position can include a fair amount of overnight and day travel in the East (Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic provinces) and includes evening and weekend work. Candidate must be willing to work from a home office environment and be centrally located within their region to facilitate travel.

The candidate will possess:

Strong public speaking, excellent writing and analysis skills Able to work positively and cohesively with a team

Critical/creative thinking

Relevant knowledge and experience of/with Eastern First Nation Communities and good understanding of First Nations self-government development

Culturally aware

Proficiency with completing projects and working independently with deadlines

Proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft office, Skype, Go-To Meeting
Diploma, Degrees and/or professional designation in areas such as Political Science, First Nation Studies, Law, Land Management, Planning, Environment or mediation or combination of relevant educational background and related work experience which include working with First Nations.

Other Considerations

Due to the amount of work directly in First Nation communities, preference may be given to candidates with Aboriginal ancestry and/or strong ties to Eastern Aboriginal communities.

Aboriginal language and/or French language fluency is an asset.

Candidates must possess a valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable personal vehicle

Salary

$65,00 – $75,000 annually
